The deposition of such a protein as amyloid can occur in various tissues and organs, therefore, amyloidosis of the heart is often found. Amyloidosis is a condition in which too much of a particular protein (amyloid) collects in the organs, so that they are not able to work normally. Amyloidosis can affect the heart, kidneys, liver, spleen, nervous system, stomach or intestines. AA amyloid deposits in the heart causing congestive heart failure and arrhythmias (irregular heart beat) may develop later in the course of the disease.

2020-11-05 · Amyloidosis is a disease, which may be systemic or localized, characterized by deposition of abnormal protein that accumulates in tissues, resulting in damaging fibrous deposits. Cardiac amyloidosis is an underrecognized cause of heart failure (HF), particularly diastolic. Cardiac amyloidosis is characterized by etiologic and clinical heterogeneity resulting in a frequently delayed diagnosis and an inappropriately high mortality risk. New treatment options for this hitherto partially untreatable condition have become and will become available, but raise challenges regarding their implementation.
Among systemic diseases, amyloidosis occupies a special place. The deposition of such a protein as amyloid can occur in various tissues and organs, therefore, amyloidosis of the heart is often found.

When this occurs, the heart becomes stiff, causing fluid build-up in the lungs that leads to breathlessness and fluid buildup in soft tissues, which, in turn, leads to leg and abdominal swelling. When your heart is stiff because of amyloidosis, it’s hard for your heart to fill and pressure builds up in your heart.
